Kelly’s Story

Kelly’s Story

NWYAS is celebrating with Kelly this week as she embarks on her third week of University Studies at Queensland University of Technology studying a Dual Degree in Social Work and Justice.

Kelly moved into NWYAS in February 2015 when she was 17. She had become homeless after being forced to flee her family due to extreme violence. Kelly lived with NWYAS for over a year and in this time completed a Diploma in Marketing and began working as a volunteer at The Smith Family and The Mater hospital in administration. Kelly explains that her volunteer experience and her own experiences of homelessness sparked a desire to help others in her future career. A big congratulations to Kelly for all she has achieved over the last couple of years.

Kelly now lives in a private rental independently and we wish her well in her new adventure at university!
